The Postdoc Career Weeks are open to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from the Rhine-Main University Alliance (RMU):
- Technical University (TU) of Darmstadt
- Goethe University Frankfurt
- Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz
This year's RMU Postdoc Career Weeks are being organized by Goethe University Frankfurt.

About the event series
The TU, Goethe University Frankfurt and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz have joined together to form the strategic RMU. With around 98,000 students and over 1,500 professors, they work closely in research, study and teaching. As world-renowned institutions, they shape Rhine-Main region as an internationally attractive and globally visible academic hub.
The RMU Postdoc Career Weeks take place once a year in close co-operation between the three universities.
Next year, the TU will organize the RMU Postdoc Career Weeks.

Monday, June 17, 2024 14.00 – 16.00 CEST | online Official Welcome and Opening Discussion “Pathways to Professorship: Mobility, Third party funding, Networking” Is there a straight path to professorship? Not surprisingly, there isn’t a simple answer to this question. In contrast, many different factors have an impact on how a career in academia develops – some of them can be actively influenced, some of them cannot. We will talk about hard facts and soft skills on the way to professorship, as for example: What are the benefits of a research stay abroad and how does this experience contribute to a career? How important is it to acquire (the right) third party funding? What is successful networking? And are there important factors for career planning which are often overlooked? Representatives of the three RMU-Universities welcome you to a discussion about the pathways to professorship. You are cordially invited to join our online opening and to take the opportunity to ask your questions! Tuesday, June 18, 2024 – 12.00 – 13.45 CEST | online RMU-Benefits for Early Career Researchers Since 2015, the Universities of Frankfurt am Main, Mainz and Darmstadt form the Strategic Rhine-Main Universities Alliance (RMU) to jointly enhance their performance. With around 98,000 students and over 1,500 professorships, they cooperate closely in research, studies and teaching, the promotion of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and the transfer of knowledge to business and society. In this event, representatives from the RMU Alliance will present funding and support measures that are relevant for ECRs. These measures include the different RMU funding lines for ERCs support structures of each of the participating universities that are available to Early Career Researchers for their career development. If you would like to learn more about the benefits of RMU regarding the qualification, funding, and networking for you as an Early Career Researcher, you are welcome to attend this session. You will also get an overview of the specific support structures and services for ECRs offered by each of the participating universities – and of course, you are invited to ask your own questions! To successfully apply for research funding, researchers need the knowledge on funding sources, processes, and formalities. In this event, we provide an overview on third party-funding opportunities in Germany and support structures at TU Darmstadt. Participants will be informed about the funding agencies, the programmes and their requirements and the conditions that have to be considered. The target group are advanced doctoral candidates and postdocs of all disciplines, who work on research proposals or plan to do so.
